The State Key Laboratory of Virology (SKLV)was established in 2004, founded by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, and supported byWuhan University and Wuhan Institute of Virology, Chinese Academy of Sciences.Up to date, it has been recognized national wide for studying virology, traininghigh level talents, and conducting scientific collaboration in China and abroadand has became the most activecenter for virology research.

The key lab is currently carrying on 4research programs, viral genetic alternations and molecularepidemiology, molecular bases of virus and host interaction, mechanisms ofviral infection and immune responses, and prevention and treatment of viraldiseases, which are focused on the basic research in combination with appliedresearch on virology using important human viruses as targets, including hepatitisB virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV), human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-1), influenzavirus, and herpes viruses, with the aims to address fundamental questions invirology and infectious diseases and to develop newapproaches for the diagnoses, prevention, and treatment of viral diseases andcancers.

SKLV has cutting-edge technology platforms, such as ChinaCenter for Type Culture Collection, China Viral Resources and Information Center,Biological Safety Level 3 Laboratory, Biological Safety Level 3 AnimalLaboratory, and Biological Safety Level 4 Laboratory (In construction).
